I am a firm believer in practicing what I preach. Not just talking about holistic health, but BEING ABOUT holistic health. This means I pay close attention to my diet, exposure to toxins, and exercise routine. I take my daily bolus of supplements as I would recommend to clients, but something needed to be added to help me achieve true health. When I added sound healing to my routine, everything else gained potency, taking me to a new level of healing.
Why? We are more than physical beings; we need more than physical medicine to move the needle toward real health.
Some of my weekly mindfulness practices include strength/cardio exercises, yoga, meditation, and breathwork. Recently, I added sound bathing with guiding imagery to my repertoire.
Sound bathing, sometimes called "sound meditation" or "sound therapy," is an immersive experience that offers more than just relaxation of the body and mind. It is a full-body listening experience. Sound healing/vibrational healing is based on the idea that everything in the universe - including our bodies - is in a state of vibration, and through different sound frequencies, we can bring balance, relaxation, and a sense of calm to the whole being (Mind. Body. & Spirit). Like yoga, meditation, or breathwork practices, sound baths call on the listener to be present.
Sound baths typically use different instruments, including "singing bowls, tuning forks, gongs, and other overtone-emitting instruments to stimulate the different brain waves. By using rhythm and frequency, we can entrain our brainwaves. It then becomes possible to down-shift our normal beta state (normal waking consciousness) to alpha (relaxed consciousness) and even reach theta (meditative state) and delta (sleep, where internal healing can occur.)
Sound healing tools that I use at home:
Tuning forks will apply specific vibrations to certain areas. Where there are patterns of tension or inflammation, tuning forks can help release tension and open blocked energy to allow energy and electricity to flow! (Remember, we are electric energy beings)
Listening to music, sometimes it is a specific frequency of sounds, such as 528 or 396Hz, and sometimes it is Bob Marley, LCD Soundsystem, or Moby.
Playing the piano
I'm using my voice! The voice can be used to sing, hum (long vowel sounds like I, Uh, O, and Ohm), and speak. I speak up when I need to, say what I mean, and mean what I say. What comes out of our mouths is so important! This was a great reminder that we all carry this instrument and the power to heal!
How sound healing has helped me:
In my sound healing sessions, I realized that the stories or programmed ideas I was telling myself may have been limiting me, reinforcing a narrative that did not serve me in living to my fullest potential.
As if I had reached a deeper state of consciousness.
When we can tune into the subconscious mind that includes so many programmed thoughts and ideas we have in our mind from childhood on, and we stop listening to these programs and tune into who we really are, beyond these programmed thoughts, we can change our mind/body relationship.
Like most people, my days are full, filled with endless tasks at home, work, and personal tasks to attend to, and a family dependent upon me for many things. During sound healing sessions, the body has permission to slow down and rest, receive without needing to respond or react and provide an opportunity to recharge.
I noticed a shift in my self-awareness and how many emotions I had trapped in my body, something I like to call 'emotional constipation". There were emotions I had been resisting & even judged myself for feeling. False narratives that I was telling myself that were getting in the way of true healing. Sounds that have never come out, truths that have never been spoken, tears that have never been shed, shame that had never been felt, feelings that have never really been "digested" and responded to.
Sound healing allowed me to feel, digest, and integrate these pent-up emotions!
An overall increased state of well-being. We are physical beings and also electric, vibrational, energy beings. When we resonate at a high frequency or vibration, we can generate, maintain, and regulate healthy cells, mitochondria, and overall healthy energy. This is part of how the Mind, Body, and Spirit work together to maintain balance, harmony, and health.
Sound healing can also bring about:
Clarity and balance
Relaxation
Improved memory and concentration
Improved sleep
A stronger immune system
Improved creativity
Heightened awareness, both of the self and the environment
Like everyone else, I am human; I hit roadblocks in my health journey, I am a work in progress, and I always aim to connect with my higher self to achieve and maintain true health.
